Interview with: George Fellows, 27 years old from London, England, at Kombat Group for two months.

The resort’s been great! I did test out whether I would like this sort of camp. I went to a different camp for ten days. That was great, but I really wanted something with more of a Western Boxing focus. After a bit of research, I realized this was as good as it gets. I came here and this has been everything I hoped it would be.

The Hard Training

I trained with all the Western Boxing coaches and have also been very lucky to be able to spar with some of the coaches; also other guests, including the current Australasian Women’s boxing champion, Tania Reid. I’ve been very lucky to have lots of great experiences.

The Easy Lifestyle

So for me it was really about being able to train hard, have an easy life and be able to relax. Everything here just makes your life so easy. I literally step out of bed, and it’s about ten feet to the gym. They cook three meals a day, seven days a week. So literally all you need to do is make sure you can get dressed and get yourself to the gym. Everything else is done for you. I wish I had a job that allowed me to get canteen food. I just love having my meals cooked for me; it makes life so much easier. Everything was great; a mix of Thai food and Western food. They were all super healthy but never left you feeling hungry.

The Good People

That’s one of the great things here about living on-site and eating on-site is it gives you a chance to chat with everyone and really bond. Most nights we’re playing cards after dinner. Then on the weekends, we’re heading out into town for maybe one or two diet cokes.

The Initial Concerns

If you’re worried about not being a good enough boxer or Muay Thai or MMA…. because that was one of the things I was worried about was I hadn’t really been boxing for very long.  I thought, ‘you know, this is a camp with a lot of great boxers and things’, and I wasn’t sure whether it would work for me. Actually you get a lot of people here at every single level, and it’s incredibly satisfying when you’re a beginner as well. You’re just making so many strides because you’re boxing twice a day.

I wouldn’t hesitate. I would just do it and book yourself on here even if it’s just to try it out for a couple of weeks.
